“We are encouraged the Government is taking this matter seriously and has set up an independent inquiry. At last the voices of victims are being heard. It’s vital the inquiry is transparent with no place to hide for those who committed these crimes or those who turned a blind eye. Trust in this process is tenuous, given what has already happened and it’s paramount the inquiry is thorough, not protracted, that the findings are followed on and that resources and support for victims are available so people who have been disempowered for so many years can finally be at peace. One in Four urges the inquiry to draw a line in the history of how sexual abuse is responded to in the UK and create long-term lasting change.”
