Advocacy
As well as providing counselling, therapeutic and support services we also offer a dynamic advocacy service that works to meet individual need. We can arrange services through referral or co-operation with other agencies, provide access to legal services, make contact with health and or social care services and if appropriate the Police We can arrange meetings with the Police at our offices and the advocate will accompany the client to such meetings if the client wishes. We can source medical services that are sympathetic to the needs of those who have been sexually abused and seek any other service or resource that might be necessary in each individual case.
For our clients, reliving an abusive experience in their lives can be painful. For some, they may not want to talk about the past, but want support in taking action through the courts, our role is to provide the support.
Many people, when asked about Advocacy will think of a lawyer or a legal setting.
*advocacy is not acting as a lawyer or acting in a legal capacity
*advocacy is not counselling or advising
*advocacy is being objective and not giving your own opinion
Our trained advocates will work with individuals and provide them with a level of information and support which will enable them to achieve the required outcomes.
This could involve
* being a listening ear
*helping to find suitable solicitors
*being a guide through the legal process
*ensuring that your views and wishes are communicated and listened to
An advocate is being on the side of the person you represent whether you agree with them or not
An advocate is able to speak articulately and clearly without becoming flustered
